Visit San Antonio: Communications, April 2018

February was very productive. The beginning of the month included the tail end of a familiarization trip for three popular Mexican social media influencers, two of whom also host a national radio show. Taking benefit of the Mexican national soccer team match, a Spurs game, iFly indoor skydiving, Natural Bridge Caverns, Top Golf, kayaking on the River Walk and many experiences, the group promoted San Antonio through their social channels with extensive followings and radio show.

Just before Valentine’s Day, Visit San Antonio showed its love for our friends in Corpus Christi to advance promotion of Spring Break travel to San Antonio. With assistance from our agency Giant Noise, Communications Manager Megan Lagrone conducted briefings and interviews with The Bend magazine, KRIS-TV (NBC), KZTV (CBS) and radio stations HOT Z95, 1440 KEYS, Real Country 97.5FM, KSAB-FM, KNCN-FM, Big 93.9 and Rock 92.7.

In late February, Communications Manager Eva Aivaliotis traveled to Birmingham, Ala., for meetings with regional and national media. Fruitful conversations that should result in coverage for San Antonio were held with Cooking with Paula Deen, Bake from Scratch, Taste of the South, Southern Cast Iron, WBRC-TV’s (FOX) Good Day Alabama, Good Grit Magazine, Alabama NewsCenter, Birmingham Magazine, Birmingham News, Birmingham Parent, Southern Living, Cooking Light and Food & Wine. Visit San Antonio also participated in tour of the Time Inc. Food Studios for future opportunities with Visit San Antonio culinary partners.

February ended with a shining media spotlight on San Antonio from The Weather Network. One of Canada’s most-seen television channels, a crew filmed across San Antonio and aired earlier this month. Segments featured The Saga at San Fernando Cathedral, the River Walk, The Witte Museum, Market Square and Mi Tierra Café, San Antonio Missions National Historic Park, Pearl and the Alamo.

To kick off this month, Mexican celebrity Roger Gonzalez visited San Antonio to film segments for his Mexican national television and radio shows as well as promote our city on his very sizable social media channels. Later in the month, the team took San Antonio’s message on media missions to Berlin, London and New Orleans.
