Visit San Antonio: Legislative Updates, May 2018

Visit San Antonio was pleased to co-host an Executive Roundtable with the Texas Association of Business. This event, held at Pearl Stables, included nearly 50 local business and community leaders. The topic was how companies can encourage their staff to get out the vote. Attendees traded strategy and best practices.

We also want to acknowledge Congressman Cuellar and Congressman Hurd for their bi-partisan work on crafting legislation to bring a non-stop flight from San Antonio to Washington, D.C. Although we did not have the votes in the end to get a bill off the House floor, our work is far from over. Efforts are under way to bring this legislation through the Senate. Please expect to hear more from Visit San Antonio and our partners as we continue to push this issue through to a successful conclusion.

Visit San Antonio also celebrated Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID), organized by the U.S. Travel Association’s Meetings Mean Business (MMB) coalition. This brings together leaders from across the meetings and events industry to showcase the real impact that business meetings, conferences, conventions, incentive travel, trade shows and exhibitions have on local economies.

In partnership with more than nine Texas meeting and events industry associations, Visit San Antonio and professionals from across the country attended the Austin GMID conference, which offered attendees discussions on industry trends and analysis.

Our legislative team has been hard at work laying the foundation for a successful 86th session. Through our partnership with other state destinations and trade associations, we will continue to advance the issues that impact our industry. We are in the process of drafting our 2019 State and Federal Legislative agendas, so please expect a full report on those within coming months.

We have an exciting legislative session ahead of us, and I encourage each of you to find out how you can become involved in the process by brushing up on the issues, speaking to your elected officials and encouraging your team to vote!
