Visit San Antonio: Marketing, May 2018

New Visitor’s Guide Ready Early June

The next edition of the San Antonio Official Visitor’s Guide will publish and be in market by early June. In addition to covering family fun, cultural, culinary and active lifestyle aspects of San Antonio, this guide includes an extensive section about new San Antonio attractions and assets and continues to promote the special exhibits and events related to the Tricentennial celebration. It will also be available in Spanish for the Mexico audience.

Now Cooking--New Campaign

The Marketing team and The Atkins Group are using insights from our recent branding market research to develop a new brand campaign that will launch in early June in time for Summer travel. The team utilized data about types of visitors and things they like to do while in the city to develop this campaign. A full week of filming and photography in April provided visual assets for the campaign, covering digital, TV, radio, print, social media and web executions.

Keeping the Brand Visible

Brand marketing continues to inspire travelers in Texas and out-of-state markets. In April, Marketing communicated San Antonio brand and Tricentennial messaging through digital channels National Geographic Traveler, Facebook, Instagram, TripAdvisor, Expedia, Q1 Media, Google and e-mail partner eTarget for an estimated 11.4 million impressions. Print ads appeared in National Geographic Traveler and Texas Monthly. Live social media posts and new culinary video assets centered around Fiesta to show others a glimpse of this local cultural celebration.  Exposure continues in May across all digital partners and National Geographic Traveler and Bon Appetit. As a special bonus, the editorial coverage of the May issue of Texas Monthly is focused on San Antonio in honor of the Tricentennial.

Extending the Brand’s Exposure with Partners

Co-op initiatives are enhancing exposure for the San Antonio destination and complementing both partners’ and Visit San Antonio’s marketing campaigns. A multi-partner initiative with The Witte Museum, San Antonio Zoo, The DoSeum, SeaWorld, Hilton Hotels and Hyatt Hotels is showcased in a special insert in the April issue of Texas Monthly and also in social media and multiple e-mail messages to Texas Monthly subscribers and Visit San Antonio opt-in consumers. For the summer time frame, campaigns are in progress with Six Flags Fiesta Texas, The Witte, San Antonio Zoo, SeaWorld, The DoSeum, Hyatt Hotels, Omni La Mansion, Marriott Hotels, City Sightseeing and Go San Antonio Explorer Pass, Biga on the Banks, Dough Pizzeria and Acenar.  For questions about co-op opportunities, contact Katie Krampitz, Leisure Marketing Manager, katiekrampitz@visitsanantonio.com, or Sandy Smith, Director of Marketing, sandysmith@visitsanantonio.com.

Trade Marketing

Marketing continued to outreach to meeting professionals utilizing a mix of channels including digital, social, email, search and print, including deploying video through SpotX, an online video advertising platform. Trade social media activity through Twitter and LinkedIn increased with the “Meet the Sales Manager” profiles – interviews with individual Visit San Antonio Sales Managers to learn more about them and their passion for San Antonio. In the past few months, the team responded to a number of media inquiries resulting in the following exposure:

Reaching Monterrey Travelers

Visit San Antonio will be participating in a popular, family-friendly event occurring  in San Pedro de Pinta, Monterrey, each Sunday in June.  A marketing plan of geo-targeted digital advertising, radio, billboards, social media and website will inform consumers about the event where Visit San Antonio will showcase San Antonio as a leisure destination.

 New Website

The Atkins Group and the Marketing team are working to propel the VisitSanAntonio.com website into the future. The focus is on incorporating strong search technology in order to quickly provide content the user is looking for. Users’ search patterns on the site will shape a personalized experience. The website will be content-rich and visually exciting, as well as interactive with multiple calls to action. The team is working toward a fall launch of this website.
