Visit San Antonio: Communications, February 2018

The team continues to spread the word on the diverse culinary scene in San Antonio. In time for the annual San Antonio Cocktail Conference, Visit San Antonio hosted a small group of culinary and mixology media from New York, San Francisco, Mexico and Canada to experience the conference that is bringing increased attention to the city’s mixology offerings as well as the evolving gastronomy.

With the commencement of the Tricentennial year, Visit San Antonio continues to meet with partners to learn of their commemorative events to share with media. If you haven’t had a chance to share your plans, please be sure to reach out so the team can include you in media conversations.

Toward the end of the month, Visit San Antonio took advantage of another special soccer event to showcase the wealth of entertainment and sports offerings in the destination to Mexican media and social media influencers. Through research we know that in addition to shopping, Mexican travelers are driven by entertainment and sports so featuring this part of San Antonio should help to find new fans for the city. The group was active on social channels throughout their visit as they enjoyed golfing, indoor skydiving, kayaking on the river, a Spurs game and the Mexican national team game at the Alamodome, among many other experiences.

February marks the beginning of Visit San Antonio’s media missions for the year. As part of the strategic plan of taking the message of the destination’s wide range of fun and cultural offerings to key markets, the team will travel over the next several months to 11 domestic destinations. The first media mission was to the Corpus Christi area in mid-February in time to advance promotion of Spring Break travel to San Antonio. In late February, the team traveled to Birmingham, Ala., the new home to Time Inc.’s culinary magazines including Food & Wine and Cooking Light, as well as Southern Living. Plans are solidifying for coming media missions to New Orleans, Los Angeles and New York City.  Please contact the Communications team if you’re interested in providing materials or information.

In the next couple of days, international media will be capturing San Antonio on camera. Canada’s The Weather Network will be filming across San Antonio for airing in early March. The beginning of March will bring Mexican celebrity Roger Gonzalez to film segments for his Mexican national television and radio shows as well as promote on his very sizable social media channels. Tune in next month for more details.
