Visit San Antonio: Tourism, December 2017 - January 2018

World Travel Market (WTM) | London | November 2017

World Travel Market is the leading global event for the UK travel industry, generating more than $3.7 billion of business contracts between attendees. Now in its 37th year, this show attracts a global audience that shapes the travel industry. Over three days, the travel industry comes together as almost 5,000 exhibiting destinations, technology and private-sector companies to find and network with 51,000 travel professionals, key industry buyers, journalists, digital influencers, students and tourism ministers. Joined by San Antonio International Airport staff, we showcased the sights and sounds of our city and advanced discussions on cooperative opportunities with airlines and tour operators.  The details regarding a “Tale of Two “co-op with Houston were finalized, and we were able to get United Airlines and Travel Bag commitment to participate.

Winter Texan Connection Fair | McAllen, TX | November 2017

On an annual basis, the Winter Texan Chamber of Commerce organizes the Welcome Home RGV Show to present to travel-trade activity directors from South Padre Island to Rio Grande City what South Texas has to offer to the Winter Texan community.  The Winter Texan visitors increase to 100,000 during the late-fall, winter and spring months from the U.S. northern states and Canada.  Tourism Development staff met with 200 activity directors to discuss what’s new and encourage weekend visits to San Antonio.

Staff is currently working on some key planning and projects:

  • Monterrey, Mexico - Consumer Promotion Planning | Monterrey, Mexico | 2018
  • A strong consumer activation is planned for Monterrey and the northern area of Mexico for 2018. This coincides with our Mexico firm’s recommendations due to the recent changes in the peso devaluation and the political climate.  Tourism Development and Adnova Communications are sighting potential opportunities in Mexico’s northern region the final week of October in Mexico. Staff continues with opportunities to promote San Antonio in Canada. A program that is currently in the works is:

  • Flight Centre Canada -  Flight Centre Canada is headquartered in Vancouver and Toronto. We are Canada's largest bricks-and-mortar travel retailer, with 150 retail stores in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.  We are working on details for a digital online campaign that will include website banner ads, designation packages and social media.
