Visit San Antonio: Marketing, December 2018

New VisitSanAntonio.com Launches

The new VisitSanAntonio.com officially launched on Nov. 30 at Visit San Antonio’s Annual Meeting. The website is visually driven, with large, new branding images and partner images prominent throughout the site. Multiple areas of the site, including a Neighborhood Guide, City Stories and Local Adventures, provide insight into the San Antonio community and will be expanded with additional content throughout the year. Navigation and content strategies help consumers quickly reach easy-to-digest content. A strong search engine foundation delivers a Google-like experience. Visit San Antonio members are featured with a page displaying their images, description, address, map with their location, website link and phone number. A special media push throughout December has been supporting the web launch. We encourage you to link to VisitSanAntonio.com on your own websites to give your customers easy access to destination information.

Events Drive Visits

Don’t forget to add your events to VisitSanAntonio.com here. Also, the Submit An Event link now appears at the bottom of every page of the new VisitSanAntonio.com to make it easier for you. The Events section of the website is heavily trafficked, and with the new website, is more engaging than ever. You do not have to be a Visit San Antonio member to add events.

Bowls Bring Business

Marketing activated a special media plan to encourage Washington State University and Iowa State University fans to come to San Antonio for the Dec. 28 Valero Alamo Bowl. Digital ads, paid social media and email blasts reached sports enthusiasts around each university area, as well as statewide in Washington and Iowa. The advertising displayed across mobile and desktop platforms for an estimated 1.3 million impressions. Organic posts on Visit San Antonio’s social media channels were also deployed throughout December. The Valero Alamo Bowl is an event that showcases San Antonio on national media (ESPN), including Visit San Antonio’s TV and radio spots and halftime video. The very next week (Jan. 5), watch for San Antonio TV commercials during the All American Bowl on NBC.

E-mail Engages

E-mail is a proven channel for quickly engaging consumers and putting San Antonio top-of-mind. In December, a series of e-mail messages were deployed to separate, targeted audiences. As part of the persona-based marketing strategy, the Marketing team deployed separate holiday-themed e-mail messages targeted to Arts/Culture/History, Urban Traveling Family and High Energy Educated Urbanite travelers. In addition, the team rolled out a new look for the monthly e-newsletter to opt-in consumers. The newsletter is now more visual with minimal copy highlighting seasonal and trip-inspiring content. The look of the newsletter resembles the new website so that consumers have a consistent, engaging experience when moving from the newsletter to the website. Finally, two e-mail messages were deployed in Texas to 500,000 consumers each, as part of the Holiday co-op program.
