Legislative Call to Action: School Start Date
Today, the House will consider HB 21 (public school finance). The Krause/Faircloth Amendment to HB 21 will re-establish and preserve the 4th Monday in August, uniform school start date law for Texas public schools. Currently, the Districts of Innovation (DOI) program provides a loophole for qualifying school districts to exempt themselves from the 4th Monday in August school start date law. The Krause/Faircloth Amendment to HB 21 will close this loophole and require all Texas school districts to observe the 4th Monday in August school start date law.
We need you to call or email your Representative‘s Capitol Office NOW and ask her/him to vote for the Krause/Faircloth Amendment to HB 21.
The Texas Travel Industry Association has created talking points as well as a sample email you can use when contacting your representative’s office. When calling, ask to speak to the Representative’s Chief of Staff or the staff person who handles education issues.
If you choose to email your representative, you may do so by sending an email to [representativesname]@house.state.tx.us. Cut and paste the sample letter into your own email to your representative. Or, simply click the link above. Customize your signature and enter your email and zip code and an email will be sent to your representative.
