Visit San Antonio: Destination Group Sales & Services, October 2018

The Destination Group Sales Division confirmed 164,712 total room nights in September.  This production brought the convention sales team to a total of 922,511 room nights for Fiscal Year 2018, achieving 100.3 percent of our annual goal.  September’s production includes the RV Industry Association for its 2020 RVX: The RV Experience, which will bring in more than 13,000 total room nights in March of that year.  The team also confirmed the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod’s 2028 Triennial National Youth Gathering for July 2028, which will bring more than  43,000 room nights.

In October, we participated in the following customer events:

  • IMEX America – IMEX America is America’s worldwide exhibition for incentive travel, meetings and events.  Our team, along with several area partners, participated in three days of business appointments.  We also hosted customer dinners for two evenings of this conference to help promote our destination.

November is another busy month for the Destination Sales Team. We will participate in the following events:

  • ConferenceDirect’s CD Forum – This is ConferenceDirect’s signature customer event focused on education, networking and relationship building with top corporate customers and associates. There, we will exchange business ideas and explore industry trends while enjoying an opportunity to network and build relationships.
  • Houston Tamale Lift – Our first Tamale Lift of the year will be in Houston on Nov. 27-28.  Please visit our partner’s website for information to sign up to join this annual customer event.

Also in September, our Associate Director of Sales, Alysia Roden, was nominated to the International Association of Events & Exhibitions (IAEE) International Board of Directors.  In her position, she will be on the forefront of industry trends, contributing to issues that shape our industry.  In addition, Troy Love, our Senior Sales Manager, earned his Certified Association Sales Executive (CASE) certification.

CHEST2018, Oct 6-10, 2018; American College of Chest Physicians Annual Meeting

CHEST 2018 featured an innovative “Learn by Doing” program, which focused on providing hands-on experiences. “More so than ever before, the annual meeting will incorporate hands-on simulation, team-based learning and case-based sessions,” said CHEST 2018 Program Chair David A. Schulman. The thousands of attendee comments, shared through social media and face-to-face interactions this week about San Antonio, echoed that, “San Antonio is a perfect setting for the meeting.” The city appeals to the many interests of this diverse attendee base.

Additionally, the CHEST Foundation partnered with the city of San Antonio to host a free community lung health fair Oct. 6 in Main Plaza. The event brought together local respiratory therapists and leading lung health experts to the public in a fun and inviting atmosphere. This event allowed members of the community to connect with their local lung health champions so that they can begin the conversation about lung health outside of the clinical setting, get their lungs screened by a respiratory therapist or pulmonologist, learn about different disease states and gain empathy for those afflicted with conditions and diseases like asthma and COPD.

Next month, we will report on the success of ASTRO (American Society of Radiation Oncology; 10/21 – 10/24/18; 39,445 TRN, 13,000 Peak)
