Hospitality Economic Impact Study
Hospitality Economic Impact 2008 > | Destination SADestination SA is a a strategic plan outlining long-range goals and benchmarks to grow the destination's tourism industry by $1.5 billion in five years for the purpose of providing value to citizens and preserving the uniqueness of the city. Informed by nearly a year of interviews and data-collection, the report by consultant CSL International synthesized the industry's priorities with a focus on downtown, brand positioning and strategic infrastructure improvements. San Antonio's hospitality industry continues to be a driving force in the local economy. The latest study using data from 2008 shows an economic impact of $11 billion. Over the last 10 years, from 1998-2008, the hospitality industry's impact has grown 70%. More than 106,000 people are employed in hospitality with an estimated payroll of $2 billion. The industry contributed more than $153 million in taxes and fees to the City of San Antonio and more than $285 million to all local governments combined. The study is a partnership between the San Antonio Greater Chamber of Commerce, the Tourism Council, Hotel & Lodging Association, Trinity University and the CVB.
